The Order of Procession of the 40th Intramuros Grand Marian Procession

Last Sunday took place what to be considered by some as the "Mother of all Marian Processions" the Intramuros Grand Marian Procession, organized by the Cofradia de la Inmaculada Concepcion, now on its 40th year of celebrating the Solemnity Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary by converging different Marian images from different parts of the Philippines; from Cagayan to Cebu to Marawi, even up to Poland to the walled city every 1st Sunday of December.

Being an historic event for the Catholic world in the Philippines, taking place at a historic city this year was no exception. The official number of participating images for this year was 121. The actual actual number of participants approved by the Cofradia is 112, lowest from last year of 116 thus taking off 4 images from the list. But with the Comite de Festejos meeting took place last October, they approved 9 new participants, so far the most number of new Marian images approved.

On the day of the Procession, 104 were present which is higher from last year of 90, thus being the most number of images present at this event thanks to the participation of the newly applied Marian images and with that, the presentation of the Images lasted for almost 7 hours with the Procession ending at approx. 12.45am of Monday, December 2.

Despite the "strong showing" the Procession has given to the faithful every year, this year has to be the "strongest". Other than the 9 new participants, notable is the return of the Virgen de Salambao after 5 years; of the Our Lady of Lourdes of Kanlaon, especially now that it is scheduled to be Canonically Crowned next year. The surprise returns of Rosario de Malabon & Virgen de la Paz y Buen Viaje de Tibag; the meeting of the 4 Coronada images under the invocation of "del Pilar", of the 2 "de la Merced" one of which representing the Diocese of Tarlac for the first time; the participation of "Tata Hosep" San Jose de Las Pinas on the occasion of its 225th Year; the presence of the Original Coronada Image of La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc and more importantly and quite possibly the most historic is the participation of the actual Image of Nuestra Senora de Penafrancia and Senor Divino Rostro used every Traslacion and Fluvial Procession in Naga every September.

So here is the actual official list of the Order. As always, new images will be indicated in bold while the returning is in italic. The images that was not present will be colored in Red.

Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary 26 (Ordinary Time VIII): The Blessed Virgin Mary, Image and Mother of the Church, II

----------

Entrance Antiphon
You are truly worthy of all praise, holy Virgin Mary;
you are the Mother of Christ, our God;
you set before the Church a shining model of every virtue!

COLLECT
Lord God,
you have shown us in the Blessed Virgin Mary
the model of sublime love and profound humility;
grant that your Church may be like her,
obedient to your commandment of love,
so that by giving itself wholeheartedly
to seeking your glory and to serving others
it may stand before all peoples
as the sacrament of your love.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading

With one heart the disciples continued in steadfast prayer with Mary, the mother of Jesus.

A reading from the Acts of the Apostles 1, 12-14

After Jesus had been taken up into heaven,
   the apostles returned to Jerusalem
   from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem,
   a sabbath day’s journey away.

When the apostles entered the city
   they went to the upper room where they were staying,
   Peter and John and James and Andrew,
   Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew,
   James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot,
   and Judas son of James.
All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer,
   together with some women,
   and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

The word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm
Ps 87:1-2, 3 and 5, 6-7

R. (3) Glorious things are told of you, O city of God.

The LORD loves the city
   founded on holy mountains,
loves the gates of Zion
   more than any dwelling in Jacob. R.

Glorious things are said of you,
   O city of God!
But of Zion it must be said:
   “They all were born right here.” R.

The Most High confirms this;
   the LORD notes in the register of the peoples:
“This one was born here.
   So all sing in their festive dance:
   “Within you is my true home.” R.

Alleluia

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
O happy Virgin, you gave birth to the Lord;
O blessed mother of the Church,
you warm our hearts with the Spirit of your Son Jesus Christ.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel

The mother of Jesus was there. And his disciples believed in him.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 2, 1-11

There was a wedding in Cana in Galilee,
   and the mother of Jesus was there.
Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.
When the wine ran short,
   the mother of Jesus said to him,
   “They have no wine.”
And Jesus said to her,
   “Woman, how does your concern affect me?
My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servers,
   “Do whatever he tells you.”
Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings,
   each holding twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus told the servers,
   “Fill the jars with water.”
So they filled them to the brim.
Then Jesus told them,
   “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.”
So they took it.
And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine,
   without knowing where it came from
   (although the servers who had drawn the water knew),
   the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him,
   “Everyone serves good wine first,
   and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one;
   but you have kept the good wine until now.”
Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee
   and so revealed his glory,
   and his disciples began to believe in him.

The Gospel of the Lord.

Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary 25 (Ordinary Time VII): The Blessed Virgin Mary, Image and Mother of the Church, I

----------

Entrance Antiphon
cf. Acts 1: 14

The disciples devoted themselves with one accord to prayer with Mary, the Mother of Jesus.

COLLECT
O God, Father of mercies,
whose Only Begotten Son, as he hung upon the Cross,
chose the Blessed Virgin Mary, his Mother,
to be our Mother also,
grant, we pray, that with her loving help
your Church may be more fruitful day by day
and, exulting in the holiness of her children,
may draw to her embrace all the families of the peoples.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading

I will put emnity between your offspring and her offspring.

A reading from the Book of Genesis 3, 9-15. 20

After the man and woman had eaten of the tree,
   the LORD God called to the man and asked him, “Where are you?”
The man answered, “I heard you in the garden;
   but I was afraid, because I was naked,
   so I hid myself.”
Then the LORD God asked, “Who told you that you were naked?
You have eaten, then,
   from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat!”
The man replied, “The woman whom you put here with me—
   she gave me fruit from the tree, and so I ate it.”
The LORD God then asked the woman,
   “Why did you do such a thing?”
The woman answered, “The serpent tricked me into it, so I ate it.”

Then the LORD God said to the serpent:
   “Because you have done this, you shall be banned
      from all the animals
      and from all the wild creatures;
   on your belly shall you crawl,
      and dirt shall you eat
      all the days of your life.
   I will put enmity between you and the woman,
      and between your offspring and hers;
   her offspring will strike at your head,
      while you strike at their heel.”

The man called his wife Eve,
   because she became the mother of all the living.
The word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm
Judith 13, 18bcde. 19 (R.: 15, 9d)

R. You are the highest honor of our race.

Blessed are you, daughter, by the Most High God,
   above all women on earth;
and blessed be the LORD God,
   the creator of heaven and earth. R.

Your deed of hope will never be forgotten
   by those who tell of the might of God. R.

Alleluia

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Happy are you, holy Virgin Mary, deserving of all praise;
from you rose the sun of justice, Christ the Lord.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel

Woman, this is your son. This is your mother.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 19, 25-27

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother
   and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,
   and Mary of Magdala.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her,
   he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.”
Then he said to the disciple,
   “Behold, your mother.”
And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

The Gospel of the Lord.

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS
Receive our offerings, O Lord,
and transform them into the mystery of salvation,
so that by its power we may be set aflame
with the charity of the Virgin Mary,
Mother of the Church,
and with her may be united more closely
to the work of redemption.
Through Christ our Lord.

PREFACE

Mary is the Image and Mother of the Church.

The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.
R. We lift them up to the Lord

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R. It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
and to proclaim your greatness with due praise,
as we honor the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Receiving your Word in her Immaculate Heart,
she was found worthy to conceive him in her virgin’s womb
and, giving birth to the Creator,
she nurtured the beginnings of the Church.

Standing beside the Cross,
she received the testament of divine love
and took to herself as sons and daughters
all those who by the Death of Christ
are born to heavenly life.

As the Apostles awaited the Spirit you had promised,
she joined her supplication to the prayers of the disciples
and so became the pattern of the Church at prayer.

Raised to the glory of heaven,
she accompanies your pilgrim Church with a mother’s love
and watches in kindness over the Church’s homeward steps,
until the Lord’s Day shall come in glorious splendor.

And so, with all the Angels and Saints,
we praise you, as without end we acclaim:

Holy, Holy, Holy....

Communion Antiphon cf. Jn 19, 26-27
As he hung upon the cross,
Jesus said to the disciple whom he loved:
Behold your mother.

Or:

Blessed are you, Mary,
full of grace, mother and virgin;
you are a shining example of faith, hope, and love to the Church.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Having received the pledge of redemption and of life,
we humbly pray, O Lord,
that, with the Blessed Virgin’s motherly help,
your Church may teach all nations
by proclaiming the Gospel
and, through the grace of the outpouring of the Spirit,
fill the whole earth.
Through Christ our Lord.

the Word of truth was cradled in your arms;
blessed are you, most prudent of virgins:

COLLECT
All-holy Father, eternal God,
in your goodness
you prepared a royal throne for your Wisdom
in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary;
bathe your Church
in the radiance of your life-giving Word,
that, pressing forward on its pilgrim way
in the light of your truth,
it may come to the joy
of a perfect knowledge of your love.

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

but with humility treasure your revealed wisdom.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading

Mary, seat of Wisdom.

A reading from the Book of Proverbs 8, 22-31

Wisom says:
“The LORD begot me, the firstborn of his ways,
   the forerunner of his prodigies of long ago;
from of old I was poured forth,
   at the first, before the earth.
When there were no depths I was brought forth,
   when there were no fountains or springs of water;
before the mountains were settled into place,
   before the hills, I was brought forth;
while as yet the earth and fields were not made,
   nor the first clods of the world.

“When the LORD established the heavens I was there,
   when he marked out the vault over the face of the deep;
when the LORD made firm the skies above,
   when he fixed fast the foundations of the earth;
when the LORD set for the sea its limit,
   so that the waters should not transgress his command;
then was I beside the LORD as his craftsman,
   and I was his delight day by day,
playing before him all the while,
   playing on the surface of his earth;
   and I found delight in the children of men.”
The word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 147, 12-13. 14-15. 19-20 (R.: Jn 1, 14)

R. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

Glorify the LORD, Jerusalem;
   Zion, offer praise to your God.
Who has strengthened the bars of your gates,
   blessed your children within you. R.

Brought peace to your borders,
   and filled you to overflowing with finest wheat.
The LORD sends a command earthward;
   his word runs swiftly!  R.

The LORD also proclaims his word to Jacob,
   decrees and laws to Israel.
God has not done this for other nations;
   of such laws they know nothing. R.

Alleluia

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
O happy Virgin, you gave birth to the Lord;
O blessed seat of Wisdom, you cradle in our hearts
the Spirit of your Son Jesus Christ.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel

Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary, his mother.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 2, 1-12

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea,
   in the days of King Herod,
   behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,
   “Where is the newborn king of the Jews?
We saw his star at its rising
   and have come to do him homage.”
When King Herod heard this,
   he was greatly troubled,
   and all Jerusalem with him.
Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people,
   Herod inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.
They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea,
   for thus it has been written through the prophet:
      ‘And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,
         are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
      since from you shall come a ruler,
         who is to shepherd my people Israel.’
Then Herod called the magi secretly
   and ascertained from them the time of the star’s appearance.
He sent them to Bethlehem and said,
   “Go and search diligently for the child.
When you have found him, bring me word,
   that I too may go and do him homage.”
After their audience with the king the magi set out.
And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them,
   until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.
They were overjoyed at seeing the star,
   and on entering the house
   they saw the child with Mary his mother.
The magi prostrated themselves and did him homage.
Then they opened their treasures
   and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod,
   the magi departed for their country by another way.

The Gospel of the Lord.

Or:

Mary treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 2, 15b-19.

The shepherds said to one another,
   “Let us go, then, to Bethlehem
   to see this thing that has taken place,
   that the Lord has made known to us.”
So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph,
   and the infant lying in the manger.
When they saw this,
   they made known the message
   that had been told them about this child.
All who heard it were amazed
   by what had been told them by the shepherds.
And Mary kept all these things,
   reflecting on them in her heart.

The Gospel of the Lord.

Or:

Mary chose the better part.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 10, 38-42

Jesus entered a village
   where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.
She had a sister named Mary
   who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
Martha, burdened with much serving, came to Jesus and said,
   “Lord, do you not care
   that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving?
Tell her to help me.”
The Lord said to Martha in reply,
   “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
There is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part
   and it will not be taken from her.”

Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary 23 (Ordinary Time V): The Blessed Virgin Mary, Temple of the Lord

----------

Entrance Antiphon Revelation 21, 3
I heard a great voice from the throne:
“Here God lives among the human race!
He will dwell with them, and they will be his people,
and God will be with them as their God.”

COLLECT
Lord God,
with artistry beyond all telling
you fashioned a holy temple for your Son
in the virginal womb of Blessed Mary;
grant that, in faithfully safeguarding the grace of our Baptism,
we may worship you in spirit and in truth
and become like Mary a temple of your glory.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading

A cloud filled the temple of the Lord God.

A reading from the first Book of Kings 8, 1. 3-7. 9-11

The elders of Israel and all the leaders of the tribes,
   the princes in the ancestral houses of the Israelites,
   came to King Solomon in Jerusalem,
   to bring up the ark of the LORD’S covenant
   from the City of David, which is Zion.
When all the elders of Israel had arrived,
   the priests took up the ark;
   they carried the ark of the LORD
   and the meeting tent with all the sacred vessels
   that were in the tent.
(The priests and Levites carried them.)

King Solomon and the entire community of Israel
   present for the occasion
   sacrificed before the ark sheep and oxen
   too many to number or count.
The priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD
   to its place beneath the wings of the cherubim in the sanctuary,
   the holy of holies of the temple.
The cherubim had their wings spread out over the place of the ark,
   sheltering the ark and its poles from above.
There was nothing in the ark but the two stone tablets
   which Moses had put there at Horeb,
   when the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites
   at their departure from the land of Egypt.

When the priests left the holy place,
   the cloud filled the temple of the LORD
   so that the priests could no longer minister because of the cloud,
   since the LORD’S glory had filled the temple of the LORD.
The word of the Lord.

Or:

Here God lives among his people.

A reading from the Book of Revelation 21,1-5a

I,John, saw a new heaven and a new earth.
The former heaven and the former earth had passed away,
   and the sea was no more.
I also saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem,
   coming down out of heaven from God,
   prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
   “Behold, God's dwelling is with the human race.
God will dwell with them and they will be his people
   and God himself will always be with them as their God.
God will wipe every tear from their eyes,
   and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain,
   for the old order has passed away.”

The One who sat on the throne said,
   “Behold, I make all things new.”

Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 83, 3. 4. 5 y 10 (R.: Rev 21, 3b)

R. Here God lives among his people.

My soul yearns and pines
   for the courts of the LORD.
My heart and flesh cry out
   for the living God. R.

As the sparrow finds a home
   and the swallow a nest to settle her young,
my home is by your altars,
   LORD of hosts, my king and my God!  R.

Happy are those who dwell in your house!
   They never cease to praise you.
O God, look kindly on our shield;
   look upon the face of your anointed. R.

Better one day in your courts
   than a thousand elsewhere.
Better the threshold of the house of my God
   than a home in the tents of the wicked. R.

Alleluia

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Hail, holy Mary, temple of holiness
and temple of love for us sinners.
Hail, temple filled with the Holy Spirit,
which God the Father chose for the Son.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel

The power of the Most High will overshadow you.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 1, 26-38

The angel Gabriel was sent from God
to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph,
of the house of David,
and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said,
“Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”
But she was greatly troubled at what was said
and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Then the angel said to her,
“Do not be afraid, Mary,
for you have found favor with God.
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,
and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
and of his Kingdom there will be no end.”
But Mary said to the angel,
“How can this be,
since I have no relations with a man?”
And the angel said to her in reply,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore the child to be born
will be called holy, the Son of God.
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative,
has also conceived a son in her old age,
and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
for nothing will be impossible for God.”
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word.”
Then the angel departed from her.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R. It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,

For by the grace of the Holy Spirit
you purify our hearts by your light

so that they become the dwelling-place of your glory.

But because of her obedience of faith
and the mystery of the Incarnation
you made the Blessed Virgin your temple without compare:

the holy city, rejoicing in its streams of grace,
the ark of the New Covenant
enshrining the author of the New Law,

Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary 22 (Ordinary Time IV): Holy Mary, Handmaid of the Lord

----------

Entrance Antiphon Luke 1, 47-48
My spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
because the Lord has looked on his lowly handmaid.

COLLECT
Lord our God,
in your loving plan of redemption
you chose the Blessed Virgin,
your lowly handmaid,
to be the Mother and companion of Christ your Son;
grant that by constantly looking up to her
we may give you wholehearted service
in untiring care for the salvation of the world.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading

I stood praying to the Lord, and the Lord granted my request.

A reading from the first Book of Samuel 1, 24-28; 2, 1-2. 4-8

Hannah brought Samuel with her,
   along with a three-year-old bull,
   an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine,
   and presented him at the temple of the LORD in Shiloh.
After the boy’s father had sacrificed the young bull,
   Hannah, his mother, approached Eli and said;
   “Pardon, my lord!
As you live, my lord,
   I am the woman who stood near you here, praying to the LORD.
I prayed for this child, and the LORD granted my request.
Now I, in turn, give him to the LORD;
   as long as he lives, he shall be dedicated to the LORD.”
Hannah left Samuel there;
   and as she worshiped the LORD, she said:
   “My heart exults in the LORD,
      my horn is exalted in my God.
   I have swallowed up my enemies;
      I rejoice in my victory.
   There is no Holy One like the LORD;
      there is no Rock like our God.

   “The bows of the mighty are broken,
      while the tottering gird on strength.
   The well-fed hire themselves out for bread,
      while the hungry batten on spoil.
   The barren wife bears seven sons,
      while the mother of many languishes.

   “The Lord puts to death and gives life;
      he casts down to the netherworld;
      he raises up again.
   The LORD makes poor and makes rich,
      he humbles, he also exalts.
   He raises the needy from the dust;
      from the ash heap he lifts up the poor,
   to seat them with nobles
      and make a glorious throne their heritage.
   He gives to vowers their vows,
      and blesses the sleep of the just.

   “For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s,
      and he has set the world upon them.”
The word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm
Lc 1, 46-48a. 48b-49. 50-51. 52-53. 54-55 (R.: 48a)

R. The Lord has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
   my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
   For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; R.

Behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.
   The Mighty One has done great things for me,
   and holy is his name.  R.

The Lord’s mercy is from age to age
   to those who fear him.
He has shown might with his arm,
   dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart. R.

He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones
   but lifted up the lowly.
The hungry he has filled with good things;
   the rich he has sent away empty. R.

The Lord has helped Israel his servant,
   remembering his mercy,
according to his promise to our ancestors,
   to Abraham and to his descendants for ever. R.

Alleluia

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Blessed are you, O Virgin Mary,
you declared yourself the handmaid of the Lord,
and now, exalted above the choirs of angels,
you are acclaimed by the Church as queen of heaven.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary 21 (Ordinary Time III): The Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Roman Missal has a Votive Mass of the Most Holy Name of Mary, of which only the opening prayer is proper. A memorial of the Most Holy Name of the Virgin is celebrated on 12 September in many particular Churches and religious institutes, generally wit the same formulary. The present formulary, except for the Preface and a few changes, is taken from the Proprium missarum Societatis Mariae.

In this Mass, God the Father is glorified first of all on account of "the name of Jesus," that is, on account of "the person of his Son," his power and saving mission: "In no other name is there salvation" (Preface, cf. Acts 4, 12); "at his command every knee must bend, in heaven, on earth, and under the earth" (Preface, cf. Philippians 2, 10).

The Father is then glorified on account of "the name of Mary," that is, on account of the person of Christ's Mother and her mission in the history of salvation (cf. Preface). The name of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated as:

- a name of honor, for God "has so exalted your Name that your praise shall be undying on our lips," as he brought honor to the name of Judith, who is a type of the Blessed Virgin (Entrance Antiphon, cf. Judith 13, 20);

- a holy name, for it marks out the woman who was entirely "full of grace" (Alleluia, cf. Luke 1, 28) and found "favor with God" (Gospel, Luke 1,30) and so conceived and gave birth to the Son of God (cf. Luke 1,31);

- a maternal name, for the Lord Jesus, "dying on the altar of the Cross, willed that the most Blessed Virgin Mary, whom he had chosen as his Mother, should be our Mother also," (Collect), so that the faithful as they " fly to her protection, may find comfort(Collect);

- a name responsive to need, for the faithful on whose lips the name of the Virgin echoes and re-echoes (cf. Preface) "turn to her with confidence as their star of hope, call on her as their mother in time of danger, and seek her protection in their hour of need" (Preface, cf. Collect).

----------

Entrance Antiphon Cf. Judith 13, 18-19
Blessed are you, O Virgin Mary, by the Lord God Most High,
above all women on the earth;
for he has so exalted your Name
that your praise shall be undying on our lips.

COLLECT
O God, whose Son, dying on the altar of the Cross,
willed that the most Blessed Virgin Mary,
whom he had chosen as his Mother,
should be our Mother also,
graciously grant, we pray,
that we, who fly to her protection,
may find comfort by invoking our Mother’s name.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading

Remembrance of me is a legacy to future generations.

A reading from the Book of Sirach 24, 17-21

I bud forth delights like the vine,
   my blossoms become fruit fair and rich.
Come to me, all you that yearn for me,
   and be filled with my fruits.
You will remember me as sweeter than honey,
   better to have than the honeycomb.
Whoever eats of me will hunger still,
   whoever drinks of me will thirst for more;
whoever obeys me will not be put to shame,
   whoever serves me will never fail.
The word of the Lord.

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS
Lord,
look with favor on the gifts we offer
and grant that our hearts may be enlightened
by the Holy Spirit,
so that in imitation of Blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
we may seek to be faithful to Christ, your Son,
to please him in all that we do,

PREFACE

Our Lady is the Temple of God’s Glory

The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.
R. We lift them up to the Lord

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R. It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,

For in no other name is there salvation;
at his command every knee must bend,
in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.

But by your loving providence
the name of the Virgin Mary also
should echo and re-echo
on the lips of your faithful people who
turn to her with confidence
as their star of hope,
call on her as their mother
in time of danger,
and seek her protection
in their hour of need.

With thankful praise,
in company with the Angels,
we glorify your power
as we sing with one voice:

Holy, Holy, Holy....
