Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary 43 (Ordinary Time XXV): Our Lady of Ransom

Our Lady of Ransom
Beata Maria Virgo de Mercede

----------

Entrance Antiphon
Lk 1, 46a. 54-55a

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel,
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise made to our ancestors.

Magnificat anima mea Dominum:
quia suscepit Israel, puerum suum,
recordatus misericordiæ suæ,
sicut locutus est ad patres nostros.

COLLECT
God, the Father of mercies,
you sent your Son into the world
as Redeemer of the human race;
grant that we who honor his Mother as Our Lady of Ransom
may faithfully protect
and seek to spread to all peoples
the true liberty of your children,
which Christ the Lord merited by his sacrifice.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

Deus, Pater misericordiarum, qui Filium tuum
hominum redemptorem in mundum misisti,
concede nobis,
eius Matrem titulo de Mercede devote colentibus,
ut veram filiorum libertatem,
quam Christus Dominus sacrificio suo promeruit,
fideliter custodiamus
et apud omnes gentes promovere valeamus.
Per Dominum.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading
Jdt 15, 8-10; 16, 13-14

The hand of the Lord strengthened me.

A reading from the Book of Judith

The high priest Joakim and the elders of the Israelites,
      who dwelt in Jerusalem,
came to see for themselves the good things that
the LORD had done for Israel,
and to meet and congratulate Judith.
When they had visited her, all with one accord blessed her, saying:
“You are the glory of Jerusalem,
      the surpassing joy of Israel;
you are the splendid boast of our people.
   With your own hand you have done all this;
you have done good to Israel,
and God is pleased with what you have wrought.
May you be blessed by the LORD Almighty
      forever and ever!”
And all the people answered, “Amen!”

Judith then said:
“A new hymn I will sing to my God.
O LORD, great are you and glorious,
   wonderful in power and unsurpassable.
Let your every creature serve you;
for you spoke, and they were made,
you sent forth your spirit, and they were created;
no one can resist your word.”
The word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm
Lk 1, 46-48a. 48b-49. 50-51. 52-53. 54-55

R. The Lord had mercy on his people.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; R.

Behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.
The Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name. R.

The Lord’s mercy is from age to age
   to those who fear him.
He has shown might with his arm,
dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart. R.

He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones
   but lifted up the lowly.
The hungry he has filled with good things;
the rich he has sent away emptyR.

The Lord has helped Israel his servant,
   remembering his mercy,
according to his promise to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants for everR.

Alleluia

See Lk 1, 45

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Blessed are you, O Virgin Mary, for firmly believing
that the promises of the Lord would be fulfilled.

R.
 Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel
Jn 19, 25-27

Woman, this is your son.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother
and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,
   and Mary of Magdala.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her,
he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.”
Then he said to the disciple,
   “Behold, your mother.”
And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

The Gospel of the Lord.

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS
Receive, O Lord, the offerings of our devotion,
and grant that we, who celebrate
your Son’s work of boundless charity,
may, through the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
be confirmed in love of you and of our neighbor.
Through Christ our Lord.

Suscipe, Domine, hæc nostræ devotionis munera,
et præsta,
ut, qui Filii tui immensæ caritatis opus recolimus,
in tui et proximi dilectione
beatæ Mariæ Virginis confirmemur exemplo.
Per Christum.

PREFACE

Holy Mary as Mother of the Redeemer and Handmaid of Redemption
(Sancta Maria, mater Redemptoris et redemptioni~ ministra)

The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.
R. We lift them up to the Lord

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R. It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.

For in your wise and provident plan
you joined the Blessed Virgin
so closely to your Son
in the work of redemption
that she was with him
as a loving mother in his infancy,
stood by his Cross
as the faithful companion in his Passion,
and, assumed into heaven,
became our advocate,
and the handmaid of our redemption.

She cares unceasingly with a mother’s love
for all your children in their need,
breaking the chains of every form of captivity,
that they might enjoy full liberty of body and spirit.

Now, with the Angels and all the Saints
we praise the redeeming love of your Son
and through him we proclaim your greatness,
as we cry out with one voice:

Vere dignum et iustum est, æquum et salutare,
nos tibi semper et ubique gratias agere,
Domine, sancte Pater, omnipotens æterne Deus:

Qui mirabili providentique consilio,
beatam Virginem in opere salutis humanæ
Filio tuo tam arcta societate iunxisti,
ut in humilitate cunarum ei amantissima mater adesset
et iuxta crucem staret fidelis socia passionis;
ad supernam autem civitatem evecta
advocata nostra fieret ac redemptionis ministra.

Unde de fratribus Filii sui in necessitate versantibus
semper curat caritate materna,

Holy, Holy, Holy....

Communion Antiphon
Jn 2, 5

The Mother of Jesus said to the attendants:
Do whatever he tells you.

Dicit Mater Iesu ministris:
« Quodcumque dixerit vobis, facite ».

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Lord God,
we have received the Sacrament of redemption and life
and now pray that through the intercession
of Our Lady of Ransom,
whom in your mercy you gave us
as our loving Mother and patroness in heaven,
we may serve ever more strenuously
the mystery of salvation on earth
and be at last admitted into your heavenly kingdom.
Through Christ our Lord.

Sumptis, Domine, sacramentis redemptionis et vitæ
supplices depreccimur,
ut, intercedente beata Maria Virgine de Mercede,
quam misericorditer nobis piissimam matrem
et cælestem dedisti patronam,
humanæ salutis mysterio deserviamus impensius
atque in regna cælorum mereamur admitti.
Qui vivit.
