Mass Proper for the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes

11 February
OUR LADY OF LOURDES

----------

COLLECT
Holy Father, who kindly watch over your people,
you wanted the Virgin to remind Bernadette
of your Son's teachings.
Open our hearts to her message
of prayer and penance
so that the light of the Gospel illuminates our whole life.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading

The glory of the Lord shines upon you

A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah 60, 1-5a

Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come,
the glory of the Lord shines upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth,
and thick clouds cover the peoples;
but upon you the Lord shines,
and over you appears his glory.
Nations shall walk by your light,
and kings by your shining radiance.
Raise your eyes and look about;
they all gather and come to you:
your sons come from afar,
and your daughters in the arms of their nurses.

Then you shall be radiant at what you see,
your heart shall throb and overflow.

The word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm
JDT 13:18BCDE, 19

R. You are the highest honor of our race.

Blessed are you, daughter, by the Most High God,
above all the women on earth;
and blessed be the Lord God,
the creator of heaven and earth. R.

Your deed of hope will never be forgotten
by those who tell of the might of God. R.

Second Reading

I saw the new Jerusalem, as beautiful as a bride all dressed for her husband

A reading from the Book of Revelation 21, 1-5a. 6b-7

I, John, saw a new heaven and a new earth.
The former heaven and the former earth had passed away,
and the sea was no more.
I also saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
"Behold, God's dwelling is with the human race.
He will dwell with them and they will be his people
and God himself will always be with them as their God.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes,
and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain,
for the old order has passed away."

The One who sat on the throne said,
"Behold, I make all things new."
I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the beginning and the end.
To the thirsty I will give a gift
from the spring of life-giving water.
The victor will inherit these gifts,
and I shall be his God,
and he will be my son."

The word of the Lord.
Alleluia
See Lk 1:45

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Blessed are you, O Virgin Mary, for firmly believing
that the promises of the Lord would be fulfilled.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel

The mother of Jesus said to the attendants: Do whatever he tells you

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John 2, 1-11

There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee,
and the mother of Jesus was there.
Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.
When the wine ran short,
the mother of Jesus said to him,
"They have no wine."
And Jesus said to her,
"Woman, how does your concern affect me?
My hour has not yet come."
His mother said to the servants,
"Do whatever he tells you."
Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings,
each holding twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus told them,
"Fill the jars with water."
So they filled them to the brim.
Then he told them,
"Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter."
So they took it.
And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine,
without knowing where it came from
(although they who had drawn the water knew),
the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him,
"Everyone serves good wine first,
and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one;
but you have kept the good wine until now."
Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs at Cana in Galilee
and so revealed his glory,
and his disciples began to believe in him.

The Gospel of the Lord.

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS
Give us Lord your Holy Spirit
who took under his shadow
the Virgin Mary
to become the Mother of the Saviour.
May he consecrate these offerings today
and make us faithful through your word.
Through Christ our Lord.

Or:
Celebrating the memory of the Immaculate Virgin,
we offer you, Lord, the sacrifice of praise,
may it rise to you as a pleasing offering
and bring us health of soul and body.
Through Christ, our Lord

PREFACE

The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.
R. We lift them up to the Lord

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R. It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.

For you preserved the most Blessed Virgin Mary
from all stain of original sin,
so that in her, endowed with the rich fullness of your grace,
you might prepare a worthy Mother for your Son
and signify the beginning of the Church,
his beautiful Bride without spot or wrinkle.

She, the most pure Virgin, was to bring forth a Son,
the innocent Lamb who would wipe away our offenses;
you placed her above all others
to be for your people an advocate of grace
and a model of holiness.

And so, in company with the choirs of Angels,
we praise you, and with joy we proclaim:

Holy, Holy, Holy....

or: Preface for the Blessed Virgin Mary II

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Having been strengthened
by the meal of this Eucharist, Lord,
may we take the path of Mary, our mother,
so that we can walk without fail
to our heavenly home.
Through Christ our Lord.

Or:
You have satisfied us, Lord, our God,
by giving us the bread from heaven.
May this Eucharist be celebrated in joy
and be for us the sign of unity and the bond of charity.
Through Christ our Lord.
