Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary 45 (Ordinary Time XXVII): The Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace

The Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace
Beata Maria Virgo, Regina Pacis

----------

Entrance Antiphon
Cf. Isaiah 9, 6

A child is born for us, a son is given to us,
and he shall be called “Prince of Peace.”

Puer natus est nobis et filius datus est nobis,
et vocabitur nomen eius « Princeps pacis ».

COLLECT
Lord our God, you sent your only Son
to bring peace to our world.
Through the intercession
of Blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
hear our earnest prayer;
grant that our times may be tranquil,
so that we may live in peace as one family,
united in love for one another.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

Deus, qui per Unigenitum tuum
pacem hominibus largiri voluisti,
intercedente beata Maria semper Virgine,
optatam tranquillitatem nostris concede temporibus,
ut unam in pace constituamus familiam
et fraterna semper uniamur caritate.
Per Dominum.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading
Is 9, 1-3. 5-6

The dominion of the Lord is boundless in a peace that has no end.

A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah

The people who walked in darkness
   have seen a great light;
upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom
   a light has shone.
You have brought them abundant joy
   and great rejoicing,
as they rejoice before you as at the harvest,
   as people make merry when dividing spoils.
For the yoke that burdened them,
   the pole on their shoulder,
and the rod of their taskmaster
   you have smashed, as on the day of Midian.
For a child is born to us, a son is given us;
   upon his shoulder dominion rests.
They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero,
   Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.
His dominion is vast
   and forever peaceful,
from David’s throne, and over his kingdom,
   which he confirms and sustains
by judgment and justice,
   both now and forever.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this!
The word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm
Ps 85, 9ab-10. 11-12. 13-14

R. The Lord speaks of peace to his people.

I will listen for the word of God;
   surely the LORD will proclaim peace
to his people, to the faithful,
   to those who trust in him. R.

Near indeed is salvation for the loyal;
   prosperity will fill our land. R.

Love and truth will meet;
   justice and peace will kiss.
Truth will spring from the earth;
   justice will look down from heaven. R.

The LORD will surely grant abundance;
   our land will yield its increase.
Prosperity will march before the Lord,
   and good fortune will follow behind. R.

Alleluia

See Lk 1, 28

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you;
blessed are you among women.

R.
 Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel
Lk 1, 26-38

You will conceive and bear a son

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

The angel Gabriel was sent from God
   to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
   to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph,
   of the house of David,
   and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And coming to Mary, the angel said,
   “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.”
But Mary was greatly troubled at what was said
   and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Then the angel said to her,
   “Do not be afraid, Mary,
   for you have found favor with God.
“Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
   and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,
   and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
   and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
   and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
But Mary said to the angel,
   “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?”
And the angel said to her in reply,
   “The holy Spirit will come upon you,
   and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore the child to be born
   will be called holy, the Son of God.
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative,
   has also conceived a son in her old age,
   and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
   for nothing will be impossible for God.”
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word.”
Then the angel departed from her.

PREFACE

The Mother of Christ Is Daughter and Queen of Peace
(Mater Christi, pacis alumna atque regina)

The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.
R. We lift them up to the Lord

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R. It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, and, as we honor the memory of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
to proclaim with fitting praise
the greatness of your name.

She is your lowly handmaid,
receiving your word from the Angel Gabriel
and conceiving in her virginal womb
the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ,
your Son, our Lord.

She is the faithful Mother,
standing fearless beside the Cross
as her Son sheds his Blood for our salvation
and reconciles all things to himself in peace.

She is the disciple of Christ and daughter of peace,
joining in prayer with the Apostles
as she awaits your promised Gift,
the Spirit of unity and peace, of love and joy.
Now, with the Saints and all the Angels
we praise you for ever:

Vere dignum et iustum est, æquum et salutare,
nos tibi, sancte Pater, semper et ubique gratias agere,
et in hac celebratione beatæ Virginis Mariæ
te debitis magnificare præconiis:

Hæc est humilis ancilla tua,
quæ nuntium de Gabrielis ore suscipiens,
virginali gremio Principem pacis concepit,
Iesum Christum, Filium tuum, Dominum nostrum.

Hæc est mater fidelis,
quæ iuxta crucem stetit intrepida,
ubi Filius, nostræ consulens saluti,
sanguine suo universa pacificavit.

Hæc est discipula Christi, pacis alumna,
quæ cum Apostolis orans
Promissum præstolatur Patris,
Spiritum unitatis et pacis, caritatis et gaudii.

Et ideo, cum Sanctis et Angelis universis,
te collaudamus, sine fine dicentes:

Holy, Holy, Holy....

Communion Antiphon

A virgin has given birth to one who is truly God and truly human:
God has restored our peace,
reconciling in himself earth with heaven.

Virgo Deum et hominem genuit.
Deus pacem nobis reddidit,
in se reconcilians ima summis.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Bestow on us, we pray, O Lord, the spirit of charity,
on this memorial of Our Lady, Queen of Peace,
so that, refreshed by the Body and Blood of your Only Begotten Son,
we may be effective in nurturing among all the peace
that he has left us.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Largire nobis, quæsumus, Domine, spiritum caritatis,
ut, corpore et sanguine Unigeniti tui,
in hac beatæ Mariæ, Reginæ pacis, memoria, refecti,
pacem inter nos, quam ipse reliquit,
efficaciter nutriamus.
Per Christum.
