The 43rd Intramuros Grand Marian Procession took place last December 1. This annual event, held on the first Sunday of December, is organized by the Cofradia de la Inmaculada Concepcion Inc. in collaboration with the Intramuros Administration and the Armed Forces of the Philippines in honor of the Immaculate Conception, the Philippine Islands' Principal Patroness.
For the third consecutive year, the Marian images in the Philippines that received Canonical Coronation "in Nomine et Auctoritate Summi Pontificis," also known as Pontifical Coronations, were highlighted in the procession. The Cofradia took this choice gradually after the event was postponed for two years due to the pandemic-related lockdown in 2020-21.
This year, the official order of procession listed 59 images, marking an increase of six from the previous year. However, following the recent proclamation of Nuestra Señora de la Consolacion y Correa de Intramuros as the "Patrona de Intramuros" in September, the Augustinian Friars requested, and the Cofradia approved, that the image be moved to the first position in the procession, ahead of San Andres Apostol. As a result, the total count was adjusted to 58, with Virgen de Consolacion y Correa and San Andres Apostol sharing the number 1 designation, distinguished by alphabetical suffixes. This system of assigning letters, traditionally used for newly participating Marian images, was applied here as a special circumstance, such as when a camareros or camareras requests to be moved to another suitable position so they can leave early, among other reasons.
The format for this year's order of procession was determined on the day that the Papal Bull or Decree authorizing the Coronation of that image by order of the Supreme Pontiff was issued and not the day of the coronation. The Cofradia emphasizes that the Decree weighs more than the rite itself, as this underscores the term "Peter has spoken" which affirms the authority of the Holy See in matters of faith and tradition. However, some of the Marian images were still positioned in the order by the date of their coronation. In addition, it is noteworthy that the Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de Turumba was granted a unique rule, which stipulates that the image and the delegation from Pakil will commence the Coronada section of the procession, regardless of whether the order includes new or returning participants. This is implemented to preserve the procession's momentum and guarantee its uninterrupted progression.
The "Roadside Altars" were an additional feature of this year's IGMP. These altars feature privately owned or venerated images of Saints, the Lord, or Marian images that are either participating or have not participated in the IGMP. The purpose of these altars is to allow the faithful to venerate them along the route while they wait for the procession to arrive. This was taken inspiration from Spanish Corpus Christi Altars and has been done to the image of the Virgen de Barangay owned by the Angeles Family (a frequent participant of the IGMP) since the resumption of the event.
The first announcement was made on October 7 and lasted until November 27.
On the day of the Procession, 16 Marian images were not present at the event, bringing the official count to 43, the biggest number of absents since the resumption in 2022 but the third biggest since we started this compilation in 2018, the first two being 2018 and 2019 with 26 and 17, respectively.
The Carroza of the La Festejada arrived in front of the Manila Cathedral about 8:49 p.m., 48 minutes earlier than the previous year (9:37 p.m.). Despite severe rains throughout much of the day, the good weather prevailed, and the sun appeared shortly before the procession began, which many saw as divine providence.
The procession's highlight is the return of the National Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Fatima of Valenzuela City for the first time since 2019, when it was still part of the order's "Veneradas" section, as well as the return of La Inmaculada Concepcion de Pasig, which has not participated in the IGMP since 2011. The inclusion of San Joaquin de Hagonoy, together with his wife and daughter, Santa Ana and La Niña Maria de Hagonoy, is a highlight that has not been done since Santa Ana's first participation at the IGMP in 2015 (due to the presence of a "Buena Familia" tableau in the procession and no duplicates allowed).
As usual, as in every other compilation of this list, Marian images that are not present are shaded in Red, and returning images will be in Italics.

Footnotes:
(*) The Coronada image of Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion de Maasin was present at the Intramuros Grand Marian Procession as part of a nationwide tour in anticipation of the 75th anniversary of the proclamation of the Dogma of the Assumption. Despite this, it did not participate in the procession itself. Rather, it was granted a place of honor in front of the Cathedral for the duration of the event. However, the page considered it to be present in the procession because it had participated in the previous year's event.
(**) On November 10, the Archdiocesan Shrine of Nuestra Señora de Guia in Ermita announced that the Coronada image will once again participate in the Intramuros Grand Marian Procession via Facebook; however, a few hours later, the post was deleted with no explanation.
