Mass for the election of the Roman Pontiff

INFORMATIVE NOTE
5. The first chapter deals with the Mass for the election of the Roman Pontiff. Indeed, the Eucharistic concelebration of the Cardinal electors before entering the Conclave is of the greatest importance. The other Cardinals, Bishops, priests and deacons, members of Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, and all the faithful present in Rome are also warmly invited to the celebration.

18. Once the funeral of the deceased Pontiff has been celebrated according to the prescribed rites and all that is necessary for the proper conduct of the election of the Roman Pontiff has been made, the Cardinal electors, in accordance with the Apostolic Constitution Universi Dominici Gregis, will gather on the appointed day in the morning of the day in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, or elsewhere, as appropriate, according to the needs of the time and place, to take part in the solemn celebration of the Eucharist "for the election of the Roman Pontiff."
All the other Cardinals, Bishops, priests, deacons, members of Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, and the laity of all the People of God present in Rome are warmly invited to this celebration to unanimously manifest the communion of the Church and to offer prayers.
19. All pastors and faithful throughout the world should raise fervent prayers to God, asking Him to enlighten the minds of the electors and bring them to unity in carrying out their office so that the election of the Roman Pontiff may be prompt, unanimous, and beneficial to the salvation of souls and the good of all the people of God.
20. The Mass for the election of the Roman Pontiff is to be solemnly concelebrated. The Dean of the College of Cardinals presides or, if he is absent or legitimately impeded, the Subdean or the first of the Electors in order and seniority. The other Cardinal electors, if possible, concelebrate.
Red vestments are worn at this Mass.

The action of the Spirit in the Church
Vere dignum et iustum est, æquum et salutare,
nos tibi semper et ubique gratias agere:
