CALENDAR OF ACTIVITIES OF POPE LEO XIV: SEPTEMBER 2026

 

This document presents the various activities that the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, undertook during the month of September.

September 2026

9.1 - 6.30 pm: Holy Mass at the Borgo Laudato Si' for the World Day of Prayer for the Cure of Creation

9.2 - 10 am: Wednesday General Audience at St. Peter's Square
A telephone conversation took place between the Holy Father and the President of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, regarding the recent earthquake that hit the country.

9.3 - 11.30 am: Audience in the private library with members of the Latin Episcopal Conference in the Arab Regions (CELRA).
12 nn: Audience in the Clementine Hall for the seminarians of the Pontifical Regional Seminary of Puglia "Pio XI" in Molfetta and the Episcopal Seminary of Aversa.

9.4 - Audience for Edgars Rinkēvičs, President of the Republic of Latvia, and Entourage.
11.45 am: Audience in the Consistory Hall for the members of the delegation from Oriel College of the University of Oxford.

9.5 - Audience in the Consistory Hall for approximately 50 nuns of the Perpetual Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament – Federation of the Holy Spirit. (Founded in Rome in 1807 by Blessed Maria Maddalena of the Incarnation, devoting their lives to the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament day and night and following the rule of St. Augustine.)
In the evening, meeting with hundreds of Vatican employees and their families for the annual Family Feast held in the Vatican Gardens.

9.6 - 12 nn: Angelus Domini

9.7 - 6 pm: Holy Mass for the Vigil of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Marian Shrine of the Mother of Good Counsel at Genazzano

9.8 - Weekly rest at Castel Gandolfo
Video message on the occasion of the 1st West African Youth Day, which will take place from 7 to 12 September 2026 in Accra, Ghana.

9.9 - 9 am: Audience in the Clementine Hall for the group of bishops who are friends of the Focolare Movement.
10 am: Wednesday General Audience at St. Peter's Square

9.10 - 10 am: Audience in the Synod Hall for 147 new bishops participating in the formation course entitled "Bishops, Servants of Communion in the Church and in the World Today".

9.11 - Audience for Bishops of El Salvador who came for an “ad Limina Apostolorum” visit
Telegram to Dr. Riccardo Di Segni, Chief Rabbi of Rome, on the occasion of Rosh Ha-Shanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot.

9.12 - 11 am: Audience in the Consistory Hall for the participants in the meeting “Fratelli tutti: North-South Socio-Environmental Dialogue” of CELAM and USCCB, promoted by the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.
11.30 am: Audience in the Clementine Hall for the approximately 100 participants in the Symposium of the “Communio Internationalis Benedictinarum”.
Letter to Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General of the General Secretariat of the Synod, appointing him as his Special Envoy to the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the canonical establishment of the Diocese of Spiš, which will be held at the Cathedral of St. Martin in Spišská Kapitula on 26 September 2026.

9.14 - 71st Birthday of Pope Leo XIV
Audience for Youhanna X, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and entourage.
Audience for Delegation of the Italian Cystic Fibrosis League.
11 am: Visit to the Vatican Apostolic Library and Inauguration at the Vatican Apostolic Library of the Series of Exhibitions “Catastrophe and Wonder”; meeting with the employees of the Vatican Apostolic Archives and the Vatican Apostolic Library; at the end of the meeting, the Pope was given a cake and received greetings for his birthday

Apostolic Letter Motu Proprio repeals Pope Francis’ 2021 Motu Proprio “A Sustainable Future,” which reduced the salaries of Cardinals, Dicastery heads and secretaries, and clergy and religious in response to the Covid-19 emergency, leaving unchanged the effects produced while the law was in force, including the suspension of biennial seniority increases.

9.16 - 9 am: Audience in the Clementine Hall for the participants in the Conference promoted by the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints and the Commission for New Martyrs – Witnesses of the Faith on the theme: The 21st Century: A New Time of Martyrs?
10 am: Wednesday General Audience at St. Peter's Square
Note from the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, and the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, entitled "A Journey of Hope: Sixty Years of Interreligious Dialogue and Brotherhood in Light of the Conciliar Declaration Nostra Aetate."

9.18 - 9 am: Audience in the Consistory Hall for the members of the Pope Leo XIV International Study Center.
Audience for Bishops of Uruguay who came on an “ad Limina Apostolorum” visit.
5.30 pm: Presiding over at the Diocesan Assembly for the opening of the new pastoral year of the Diocese of Rome in the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran.

9.19 - 12.30 pm: Audience in the Clementine Hall for the delegation from the Special Olympics sports organization who took part in the 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin.
Letter to the Bishops of Latin America and the Caribbean on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the canonization of Saint Turibius of Mogrovejo

9.20 - 12 nn: Angelus Domini

9.21 - 11.30 am: Visit to the headquarters of the Dicastery for Culture and Education.
12 nn: Audience in the Consistory Hall for the Assembly of the Federation of Capuchin Poor Clare Nuns of Italy.

9.23 - Audience for Michael Kretschmer, Minister-President of the State of Saxony, and entourage.
10 am: Wednesday General Audience at St. Peter's Square; appeal to everyone's responsibility towards migrants and refugees, especially minors.

9.24 - Audience for António José Martins Seguro, President of the Portuguese Republic, with his wife and entourage.
Audience for Péter Magyar, Prime Minister of Hungary, and entourage.
Audience for the Members of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.

5th FOREIGN APOSTOLIC PILGRIMAGE
France: September 25-28

9.25 - 7.50 am: Departure by airplane from Rome/Fiumicino International Airport to Paris.
The papal entourage boarded ITA Airways A321 and departed for Paris at 7.58 am. He sent telegrams to the presidents of Italy and of the Swiss Confederation. The plane landed at Paris Orly International Airport at 9.56 am

France
Paris
10 am: Arrival at Paris Orly International Airport; Welcome Ceremony.
The Pope was welcomed by the Apostolic Nuncio, Celestino Migliore, and by Emmanuel Macron, president of France.
11 am: Courtesy visit to the President of the Republic at the Élysée Palace.
11.45 am: Meeting with the Authorities, Civil Society, and the Diplomatic Corps in the Salle des Fêtes of the Élysée Palace.
Transfer by car to the Apostolic Nunciature for lunch.
3 pm: Visit to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at the Headquarters of UNESCO; signing of the Golden Book and exchange of gifts; meeting with the Director General in the library; brief visit to the Piazza della Tolleranza; visit to the exhibition of art representing UNESCO's regional groups in Salle des pas perdus; speech at Room I.
Transfer by Popemobile to the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the seat of the Archbishop of Paris and the first papal visit since the fire in 2019.
5.15 pm: Vespers with the Bishops, Priests, Deacons, Consecrated Men and Women, and Seminarians in the Notre-Dame Cathedral; brief moment of prayer with the faithful outside the cathedral.
Transfer by car to the Apostolic Nunciature for rest.
Saint-Denis
9 pm: Prayer Vigil with Young People at the “Stade de France”; the vigil consisted of a presentation in the form of a show, dialogue of the Pope with young people, chanting of the Litany of the Saints and recollection before the Holy Tunic and the relics of the Saints of France, Compline and apostolic blessing.
Transfer by car to the Apostolic Nunciature for an overnight stay.
Paris
9.26 - 9 am: Visit to the Maison Bakhita Centre for Social Support and Integration
10.15 am: Meeting with members of the Provincial Synodal Assembly, Catehcumens, and newly baptized at the Institut Catholique de Paris
Travel by car to the Nunciature for a private lunch
3 pm: Holy Mass at the Place de la Concorde attended by 800000 faithful.
5.45 pm: Departure by airplane from Paris Orly International Airport to Lourdes; the Papal entourage boarded an Air France A321, departing for Lourdes at 5.59 pm
Lourdes
7.05 pm: Arrival at Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées International Airport; the plane landed at 7 pm.
Stop over at the bridge named after the Pope, where he was welcomed by the Mayor.
Transfer by Popemobile to the Marian Sanctuary, where he was welcomed by numerous pilgrims.
7.40 pm: Prayer at the Grotto of the Apparitins at Massabielle at the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes; offering of a Golden Rose.
9.27 - 9 am: Meeting in the Saint Bernadette auditorium with the bishops of the French Bishops’ Conference.
11 am: Holy Mass at the Prairie; present at the Altar is the image of Our Lady made by Emilien Cabuchet, along with the Golden Roses offered by Bl. Pius IX, St. John Paul II & Leo XIV, and a reliquary of St. Bernadette Soubirous; the Mass was attended by 150,000 faithful mostly pilgrims, the sick and their carers.

Transfer to the Bishop's house for lunch
3.30 pm: Meeting with the staff and sick community of the Accueil Notre-Dame; meeting with the sick at the fifth floor of the building
4.45 pm: Private meeting at the Carmelite Monastery with the contemplative religious sisters.
5.30 pm: Private meeting in the Bishop's House with seven people victims of abuse
9 pm: Holy Rosary and Procession "aux flambeaux"
Transfer by car to the Bishop's house for an overnight rest.
9.28 - 7.40 am: Departure by airplane from Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées International Airport; Air France A321 departed at 7.51 am.
Metz
9.20 am: Arrival at Metz-Nancy-Lorraine International Airport; the plane arrived at 9.02 am
10 am: Interreligious Meeting at the “Robert Schuman” Conference Centre
11 am: Meeting “At the Roots of Europe for Peace and Unity” at the “Robert Schuman” Conference Centre; the meeting was attended by among others, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
4 pm: Holy Mass in the Cathedral of Saint Stephen
6.30 pm: Farewell Ceremony at Metz-Nancy-Lorraine International Airport
7 pm: Departure from Metz-Nancy-Lorraine International Airport; Air France A321 departed at 7.33 pm
8.50 pm: Arrival at Rome/Fiumicino International Airport; the plane landed at 8.53 pm.
